Gardenscape, first described by the Saskatoon StarPhoenix as “a gigantic garden party,” bloomed onto the scene in March 1990. It was a pioneering event in Western Canada — the only show of its kind dedicated to horticulture, landscaping, lawn care, and gardening. Since then, Gardenscape has grown into a vibrant celebration of gardening, outdoor living, and the art and science of horticulture.
Produced by Prairieland’s Signature Events team, Gardenscape is guided by a volunteer committee of industry leaders who saw the need to reconnect people with nature. Their vision — a “renaissance of nature” — continues to inspire visitors to rediscover the therapeutic joy of working with plants.

From a modest gathering of garden enthusiasts, the show has grown into a dynamic event featuring diverse exhibitors — from horticulture experts to innovative garden product makers. Visitors discover the latest in landscaping trends, sustainable gardening, and modern backyard living.

Beyond stunning displays and enticing products, the trade show is a hub for knowledge exchange. Renowned horticulturists, landscape designers, and gardening gurus share expertise through interactive workshops and informative sessions, making the event an invaluable educational resource.

Learning at Gardenscape isn’t just for adults. Our Garden Experience grew from the Little Green Thumbs program for Grade 3 classrooms, where thousands of students have discovered the joys of composting, planting, and identifying helpful versus harmful bugs. It’s a fun, hands-on way to inspire curiosity and a love of gardening from a young age.

Feature Gardens are a longtime Gardenscape favourite, created by professional landscape designers around unique themes. Each space blends hardscaping, lush plants, and stylish details to spark inspiration. They’re not just beautiful — they offer real ideas you can take home and use in your own yard.

Gardenscape owes its remarkable success to the unwavering support from the commercial horticulture industry, the dedicated involvement of local gardening societies and its enduring affiliation with the University of Saskatchewan’s Master Gardener Program and Plant Science Department. However, what truly continues to set Gardenscape apart is its commitment to maintaining a hyper-focus on horticulture and the joys of backyard living, avoiding the path of becoming a generic home and garden show like many others. This unique blend of partnerships and industry dedication underscores Gardenscape’s enduring appeal and continued prosperity.
As the Gardenscape Backyard Living Show marks its 37th anniversary, it stands as a testament to the enduring appeal of connecting with nature. Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or a budding enthusiast, the event continues to inspire, educate, and celebrate the profound joy that comes from cultivating a green and vibrant world right in our own backyards. Everyone is welcome to experience our ritual of spring at Prairieland March 27-29, 2026.

Gardenscape, overseen by Prairieland’s Signature Events Department, draws strength from a collaborative volunteer organizing committee comprised of influential industry figures. These visionaries recognized that modern living had led us away from our innate connection to nature. Their mission was to offer an opportunity for individuals to rediscover the therapeutic benefits of working with plants — a “renaissance of nature,” as they termed it — an idea which resonated with the intended audience.
